Student's guerrilla project to encourage people to walk gets support of officials

RALEIGH, N.C. — On a January night, under cover of darkness, Matt Tomasulo and friends dared to commit a subversive act: They placed 27 signs at three intersections in Raleigh, advising people how long it takes to walk from one destination to another.

Saskatoon City Council ends downtown skate board ban
June 28, 2011

Boarders who had been lobbying council to allow them to use bike lanes on roads and riverbank trails achieved success on Monday evening. Saskatoon City Council voted to make skateboarding legal in the downtown area — although still not on sidewalks.

Government of Canada invests in research on physical activity & health
July 27, 2010

Canadians will benefit from new insights into the link between physical activity and health as the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, today announced funding of $2.5M for each of four research teams through the  Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). These teams will study the effects of exercise on the body and its role in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, including arthritis, breast cancer and heart disease.
