Saskatchewan received a failing grade in the 2009 Saskatchewan Supplement to the Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth.

Like the rest of Canada, Saskatchewan children and youth received a failing grade of F for physical activity levels. Only 15% of 5-19 year olds in this province get the recommended 60-90 minutes of physical activity every day.

We're not OK with that! Are you?

The Saskatchewan supplement is the first provincial report card released by AHKC. The Good news is that we scored slightly higher across all report card indicators than the national average. We're on the right track, but we've still got a long way to go.

Jump in and be part of the solution!

We believe schools, communities and families must share responsibility for making sure kids can move every day. Here's what you can do:

At home

  • Take time to be active for 30 minutes every day with the kids you care about.
  • Encourage kids to go outside and play.
  • Consider active family vacations.
  • Limit screen time.

At school

  • Ensure your school is in motion by providing a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity every day for every student.
  • Review school policy to ensure it's easy for students to make active choices.
  • Deliver an exciting inter-mural program.
  • Understand that Quality Daily Physical Education is critical to a healthy active future for our children and youth.

In the community

  • Volunteer to be a coach, official or team manager.
  • Organize a walking school bus as a healthy alternative to driving kids to school.
  • Speak out for trails and green spaces.
  • Ensure a wide range of community programs and facilities to meet the needs of children and youth.
