» Walking for Health

Walking is one of the safest, easiest, most accessible and convenient ways to include physical activity into your day. It’s not surprising that walking is Saskatchewan’s number one choice for physical activity.

Your path to increased physical activity through walking can be as easy as:

  • Choose one trip each day to walk instead of ride.
  • Choose the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Park a little further away form your destination.
  • Take a walking break instead of a coffee break.
  • Seek out the pathways and trails in your community and use them!
  • Just go for a walk – it’s a great way to start your day or get a little pick me up at any time.

It all starts with just one more step!

Walking is our most natural form of movement…we all know how to do it. Check out the links below for some great tips to keep walking safe, comfortable and regular.

Do you live in a walkable community?

Where you live has a major impact on your ability to be active every day. Communities with safe walking routes, good lighting, well maintained trails and pathways and close proximity to shopping, libraries, recreation facilities and other destinations encourage citizens to choose walking more often.

Active and Safe Routes to School

Walking to school

Walking to school is an easy way to add more physical activity into the lives of our children. The benefits are enormous! Not only will our children become more active, they learn safe routes to school, safe pedestrian and cycling skills, become familiar with their neighborhood and all the while reducing traffic congestion and air quality around the school yard. Not only that, children who are more active are more attentive in school and are ready to learn.
