Background

A province-wide movement
Saskatchewan in motion is a province-wide movement aimed at increasing physical activity for health, social, economic and environmental benefits. To keep it simple, our purpose is to help people move more!

In motion blends provincial, regional and local resources with strong community leaders to make sure people have what they need to be physically active every day. Our vision is that the people of Saskatchewan will be the healthiest, most physically active in Canada.

As we look to the future, we realize our focus must include our next generation: Saskatchewan's youngsters. Only 15% of Saskatchewan children and youth meet Canada's guidelines for physical activity (a minimum of 60-90 90 minutes of physical activity each day). For the first time in history our children are expected to have a shorter and less healthy life than their parents. Saskatchewan in motion is not okay with that!

A shared responsibility
It's everyone's job to make sure kids have what they need to move every day. Saskatchewan in motion works at many levels to encourage individuals and organizations across the province to jump in and do the right thing.

There's an easy way to make sure our kids get the physical activity they need:

  • 30 minutes of activity at home
  • 30 minutes at school
  • 30 minutes in the community

Our simple recipe for success, (30 + 30 + 30) will help us reach these goals:

  • to make Saskatchewan one of the three most physically active provinces in Canada
  • to raise the grade on physical activity among Saskatchewan children and youth as reported in Active Healthy Kids Canada's Report Card on Physical Activity
