Elbow wins the in motion $10,000 Community Pledge Challenge

January 30, 2012

The votes are in and the winner of the $10,000 in motion Community Pledge Challenge is Elbow. The money is earmarked for a community project that keeps children and youth in their community more physically active. Elbow plans to use its winnings for a safe and modern playground in their local park that also includes fitness equipment for use by parents, grandparents and visitors.

According to Elbow community challenge organizer Sarah Wilm, "We're couldn't be more excited! Our friends, neighbours, and families have really helped us through this final voting process and we're just so happy to be named the winner. The $10,000 will go towards our new playground and park that will definitely keep the kids in our community more active, but overall will benefit all residents of all ages, now and in the future."

Cathie Kryzanowski, General Manager of Saskatchewan in motion is thrilled with participation in this event. "All the participating communities have identified innovative ways to increase physical activity opportunities for children and youth. We look forward to supporting each community in their efforts to achieve their goals over the next few months."

The announcement was made January 30, 2012 during the Saskatchewan in motion luncheon at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) Conference in Regina.

Elbow may be the $10,000 winner, but there's still good news for the finalist communities. All are eligible for continued support from Saskatchewan in motion.

"Plans are well underway for the 2013 in motion Community Pledge Challenge," says Kryzanowski. "We look forward to inspiring communities to work together and commit to making physical activity the easy choice for our kids."

Less than 15% of Saskatchewan kids get the minimum 60 minutes of physical activity they need every day. The in motion Community Pledge Challenge is designed to get communities to work together to make a positive difference and make physical activity the easy choice for our kids.
