Saskatchewan in motion's Northern Strategy focuses on communities and their schools. It emphasizes empowering leaders and building community capacity to develop long term strategies that increase physical activity for the people in communities across northern Saskatchewan.
School policy packageThe Active Communities Communities Team (ACT) of the Northern Health Communities Partnership (NCHP) and Saskatchewan in motion have developed a Physical Activity Policy Package for Northern Saskatchewan School Divisions, Education Authorities and Community Schools. The package was developed to support commitment to physical activity found in schools across northern Saskatchewan. It provides suggestions and ideas for action at all levels, from students and parents, to school councils and divisions. For more information, contact Judy MacLeod Campbell at 306-425-3127, extension 5. Northern Physical Activity Action PlanThe Northern in motion team has developed a Northern Physical Activity Action. The Active Communities Team is implementing and evaluating the plan. Major initiatives within the plan include:
The plan addresses common north-wide issues and barriers to participation in physical activity by working together to build on successes. It identifies north-wide and regional actions that partners are committed to carrying out. It also builds in a communication and support system for communities, schools, workplaces and partner organizations to use to strengthen community initiatives for increasing awareness and participation in physical activity. Suggested actions/ideas for communities can also be found within the plan. Physical inactivity is an issue that affects us all – this plan is for you! Download and print the plan. Active Communities Team of the Northern Healthy Communities PartnershipThe Active Communities Team or ACT is one of four working groups of the Northern Healthy Communities Partnership (NHCP) focusing on population health promotion. Formerly the Northern Physical Activity Week (NPAW) Committee, the ACT has been an organized partnership since the first NPAW in 2003. Saskatchewan in motion is just one of many partners involved with ACT. Other partners include health, recreation, education, Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Kids First North, and New North.
The ACT is the lead group implementing and evaluating the Northern Physical Activity Action Plan.
