New guidelines for physical activity in Canada were introduced earlier this year. The guidelines were developed with specific health outcomes in mind in response to advances in science and stronger evidence. They're based on work by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), which has been examining the science behind the question: "how much physical activity is enough?" This work has received international acclaim and provides the basis for new guidelines in the USA, Britain and now Canada.
The bottom line for our kids? They need 60 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity, but more is better.
