Welcome to move it.
Your body talks to you. Really, it does! But how often do you listen?
Have you ever sat in one place for so long you actually start to feel uncomfortable? That’s your body telling you something. When your body starts to ache from being inactive for too long, it’s actually trying to get you to move.
Maybe you’re thinking about getting up and moving right now. No time like the present. Your body will thank you. So, why not? Get up. Walk around. Play a game. Jog. Dance. Anything but sit still.
In other words… move it!
Did you know that three years ago, 7 in 10 high school students were so inactive they practically had a couch attached to their back? Well, it’s not getting better – yet. This year we found out that number has risen.
Thinking about how often you sit on the couch? Good. Here’s how we're gonna change things, starting right here.
The move it website is designed to serve as a resource for students and teachers who are or would like to become leaders in the movement to increase physical activity levels in their school. This web site provides resources that have been developed in partnership with youth, for youth.
Wanna know more? Wondering why we need this, or who's behind it all? Then you’ll want to read the Saskatchewan in motion Youth Strategy (PDF 212 KB). This document explains how we're trying to make Saskatchewan youth the healthiest, most physically active in Canada.
Move it is based in our high schools and was developed by youth, for youth. Its aim is to raise awareness and understanding, and to motivate youth in practical ways to increase their physical activity levels.
Our goal is to increase physical activity levels among Saskatchewan youth by 10% in the next four years. Can we do it? Well, that depends on you! Let’s get going – today.
