Act out – Make people aware of the importance of physical activity:
- Organize a flash mob.
- Plan an in motion day or event.
- Ask your family to make an online pledge to do just one thing so you can move more.
Speak out - Join the conversation, share your suggestions and comment on:
Get out – Be an active role model:
- Be active and bring a buddy.
- Leave the car at home; use your favourite form of active transportation instead.
- Have fun! Go jump in a lake or have a snowball fight.
Choices, choices, choices
Physical activity doesn't have to be structured, tedious, or organized. Think outside the box, try new things and enjoy!
Active transportation – Use people power (biking, rollerblading, long boarding) to get from place to place as part of your daily routine. It's good for your health and social development and not bad for the environment and economy either!
Turn it off - Trade screen time for physical activity. Try swapping movie nights for something active, like a pick-up basketball game.
Be a sport - Join a league at any level. Referee or play your favourite sport. Look for recreation opportunities like ultimate Frisbee or dragon boating. You'll meet new people and have a great time. Don't have a team? Explore individual activities like rowing, dance, gymnastics or swimming.
Volunteer – Lead by example, coach a team, lead a walking school bus.
Hug a Tree – Take a walk on the wild side and reconnect with nature. Go mountain biking, run along the beach, rent a GPS unit and try out Geocaching.
Be Adventurous –Take a chance on a new activity like yoga, practice a martial art, or go salsa dancing.
Be safe, be smart, have fun and you'll feel great!
