The Generation Action Youth Summit team had the opportunity to present to provincial leaders and decision makers at the Inspiring Action Physical Activity Summit held April 19 and 20 in Regina.
Representing rural and urban communities in Saskatchewan, the team planned a powerful and inspiring presentation to provincial and community leaders to demonstrate how passionately they feel about the need for action on the physical inactivity crisis in Saskatchewan.
As part of the presentation to the summit audience, the youth summit team delivered a Generation Action Youth Charter for Physical Activity. The charter contains hundreds of signatures from youth around the province who are passionate about physical activity.
It's never too late to sign the charter to be part of the growing number of youth who want to collectively raise their voices on the issue of physical inactivity in our province and inspire action!
In addition to the youth charter, there are several other opportunities to continue the conversation:
Background - Saskatchewan youth were invited to apply to be a part of the premiere Generation Action Youth Summit held over two weekends in January and February 2011. Youth from around the province, ranging in age from 16-23, were selected to work toward solutions for the physical inactivity crisis in our province.
Farley Flex and the Saskatchewan in motion team facilitated the youth summit team's creativity, leadership, experience and knowledge to tell a story that will motivate leaders to take action to increase opportunities for Saskatchewan children and youth to be active. In the first weekend session, the group worked together to establish and document Saskatchewan's physical activity story from a youth perspective. At the second meeting, the team planned and initiated production of a multi-faceted presentation which was delivered to the provincial leaders in attendance at the Inspiring Action Physical Activity Summit in April, 2011.
